this sweater just needs the underarms grafted.  but it doesn’t need to be done right now, so probably won’t be.

three baby patterns just need the math written up so i can get them to test knitters.

i’ve been busting out a shawl for a friend who is moving away very soon.  there will also be a pattern for this one.

and i need to spin some hair for a doll my mama is making the babe.  who, by the way, is passing the baby stage entirely too fast!

plus, my biggest wish, is to get the studio in a decent state so i can start having open studios in the fall!  but i’ve got all summer to do that minus big trips to MT, AK, and a cross country drive.  we’ll see.  this week we’ve been enjoying ben’s break with long walks, trips to the park, home cooked meals, and plenty of daddy/baby jogging/walking expeditions.  not to mention, naps for all.  and today i got to sleep in until 9.

and i’ve been particularly enjoying this.

it will be another new pattern.  and some day i will get a better picture of it.  ben’s almost done with teaching for the summer and then i’ll be working on patterns like a crazy woman.  i’m excited :D

this is a sweater for m. from this pattern, which i think is so so lovely. i love looking at all the finished color combos. alas, the BRIGHT and DEEP purple blue in mine never comes out – on camera or when editing. raveled here.

i’m also working on some designs. next up is the math for the babe’s sweater.  then to test knitters.  then the crossbow mitts – which i have one knit already (they got put aside when i had pregnancy carpal tunnel).  then i think a sport weight version of this sweater.  there’s more on the list, but i don’t really think you need to know it all!

you may also like to know that i ordered some snapdragon fingering to dye, since i’m low and it’s a great summer yarn.

when it wasn’t 80 degrees in march, or 70 in april, you know, mid february, i decided the first fairbanks didn’t fit the little anymore. and as i mentioned, if i’d used worsted instead of aran or gone up a needle size on the first, i would have been golden. but there just wasn’t enough stretch in it.

so i made another one.

these are the leftovers from 2 skeins of snapdragon worsted.  the brownish color is leftover from my brother’s windschief. i love the yardage on these skeins! i also included a stripe of this in the babe’s most recent sweater.  and the purple is leftover from a sweater i’m currently knitting him. raveled here.

and he wore it a bunch before it turned to 70-80 degrees, so that’s good.

but mostly i would like to say how much i enjoyed hearing all of your knitting histories.  i like the plain old boring way that fiber arts are passed on. i like that it’s through bloodlines or through friends. i like that it’s earthy and can be put down and picked up again, regaining the thread.  one of the reviews on amazon said that this book was boring because all the knitwear designers stories were just family stories.  knitwear designers are people too :)  and those are the stories i love.

Why Falkland?

Falkland wool is a merino cross that comes from the Falkland Islands. It is a squishy, soft spin with lots of bounce, and a longer staple length than merino. Falkland is my most consistent source of wool that is good for the sheep, the environment, and for us. The Falkland I buy does not have the chemical processing that is used in most commercially processed wool and so retains some lanolin and a bit of a sheepy smell when wet. Mmmm. Sheepy.

How does the club work?

What you get.

Each subscription to the fiber club lasts 3 months (in this instance, April-June). You get 4 oz of Falkland wool in an exclusive cosymakes colorway, hand dyed by me with Greener Shades Professional Acid Dyes. You may instead choose to get a double batch (8 oz). If I have left overs of the colorway, they will not make it into my shop until at least 6 months later.
