Sweater Design

Well, I totally failed to do my two blog entries last week, but I did teach 3 new people to spin in a spindle class and re-skeined a whole bunch of the knit the bridge yarn.  good excuses?  Today I thought I’d tell you about a class that has been added to the schedule.  On facebook here.

(baby) Sweater Design Workshop
April 27th, 1-3 – $40 for two session, second session to be worked out with attendants

In this class you will begin to understand measure and fit on the simple form of a baby/toddler/child. In the first class, we will discuss your vision for your sweater, math to make it fit, and all the knitty gritty. This part will include lots of handouts and talking about sweater construction (top down, pieces, bottom up etc.). You will probably even cast on. In the second class, you will have knit a bit and you can come back at me with your questions.

april @ the studio

it is the last month at the studio!  check out what is happening here.  there’s lots going on.  you can also expect to see a (baby) sweater design workshop towards the end of the month (probably the 27th). clearly we are going out with a BANG!

one very special event is the re-skeining of the exclusive Knit the Bridge colorways that i (and a few friends) dyed… happening on the 14th.  good stuff.  i hope if you haven’t made it to the studio yet, you can come to one of these events.  plenty of them are just of the knitting/chatting/spinning sort.

on my favorite drop spindle...

Because of the classes I am teaching at Pgh Knit and Crochet, I am not teaching at the Studio this month. You can look forward to more classes in April. I am planning to at least have a drop spindle class in April – I have several folks interested. If you are interested, please let me know!! That way I can coordinate all of us and find a time that works for everyone.

I am sad to announce the closing of the studio at the end of April. It is the end of an era, but don’t worry! I’ll have my home studio set up for people to come buy yarn and I am planning to teach at Crazy Mocha in Squirrel Hill. I have had enough people still want to take classes that I thought it was worth it. If you have a class you’d like to take from me, please let me know and once I have a couple of people, I’ll put it on the schedule! Classes coming soon: Beginning Spinning on a Drop Spindle, Baby Sweater Design, Baby Surprise Jacket, and Cast ons and Bind offs.

the holidays at the studio

(the december newsletter is available for reading here.)

i have officially started my holiday knitting!  and hold on to your hats… because i might actually have my presents to their recipients on time this year.  you know, the girl who does craft fairs and thus doesn’t send/knit for the family until late – usually mid january is when they get them.

but i had only one yarn show this year, seriously paring back what i usually do.  so the holiday knitting has begun.  here’s the beginning.  may it all not be quite this boring to look at ;)
first of xmas knits
i honestly don’t find hat knitting boring at all… and especially not when it’s heading to a good home to be loved. and not when it’s in this divine tweedy cashmere yarn. yum.

i would now like to put in a little plug for some holiday knitting at the studio – both of the free come knit with me type and the class type.

First, the classes.  I am offering several classes this December with the holiday knitter in mind.  More information can be found here, but the basics are below.  These classes are still often on Thursday nights, but come January most classes will be on Saturday and Sunday afternoons!  If interested, you can see the Jan/Feb schedule here.

And even better, this pattern can easily be worked with any size of yarn.

Now on to the open studios for the month. this month I have way more open studios than normal! I figure I will need some last minute knitting time to finish up gifts, and maybe you will too? Or last minute buying time for that knitter on your shopping list?  So I will be open for knitting, spinning, chatting, and shopping

Friday, December 21st, 4-8

Saturday, December 22nd, 1-5

Sunday, December 23rd, 2-6

Please note that the Open Studio Schedule will be more consistent come the new year!  They will be the first Friday of the month from 4-8 and the third Sunday of the month from 2-6.  I will continue to make facebook events for them, so be sure to follow cosymakes on facebook. Here’s the one coming up.

Check out the December classes for some last minute gift ideas… and note that there are 3 special open studios right before Christmas to help you finish up your gift knitting.

beginnings

i love teaching beginnings. i love watching it ‘click,’ i love how proud people are when they master a new skill, i love spreading the fiber arts addiction.

and so i begin, or rather, we begin with 2 classes that i will be offering every month.

beginning knitting (2 classes, 1.5 hr each) $20 for a single class, or register for both for $35
long draw merino
Learn to knit for the first time or get a refresher course. In this class, you’ll not only learn the basics of knitting, but you’ll also come out with your first finished product! Choose between making simple fingerless mitts, a cute square hat, a short neckscarf, or a cuff bracelet for your first project. We’ll also discuss gauge and selection of needles and yarn.

beginning spinning (2 classes, 1.5 hr each) $20 for a single class, or register for both for $35
on my favorite drop spindle...
spindle
Have a hankering to make your own beautiful yarn? In this class you will learn to spin on a spindle using the park and draft method. In the second class, we’ll work towards actually dropping the spindle, learn to ply, and discuss how to finish the yarn.

wheel
Become one with your wheel as we get down to the nitty gritty of actually getting some yarn made. In this class we will work hard to get you and your wheel to understand each other in order to make lovely functional yarn. We’ll also work on plying and discuss how to finish yarn.

Although I do put these classes onthe schedule every month, I understand that we all have complex schedules.  Feel free to email me at cosymakes (at) gmail (dot) com to show interest.  Once I get more than one person, we’ll figure out a time that will work for everyone!

You can read more about me and the studio here.
