falkland fiber club openings

January 2, 2012

AVAILABLE THROUGH THE 15th – and there are only 4 slots

Why Falkland?

Falkland wool is a merino cross that comes from the Falkland Islands. It is a squishy, soft spin with lots of bounce, and a longer staple length than merino. Falkland is my most consistent source of wool that is good for the sheep, the environment, and for us. The Falkland I buy does not have the chemical processing that is used in most commercially processed wool and so retains some lanolin and a bit of a sheepy smell when wet. Mmmm. Sheepy.

falkland fiber club

How does the club work?

What you get.

Each subscription to the fiber club lasts 3 months (in this instance, Jan-March). You get 4 oz of Falkland wool in an exclusive cosymakes colorway, hand dyed by me with Greener Shades Professional Acid Dyes. You may instead choose to get a double batch (8 oz). If I have left overs of the colorway, they will not make it into my shop until at least 6 months later.

Pricing:

Single Fiber
Pay up front (preferred): $57
Pay month by month: $19/month

Double the Fiber
Pay up front (preferred): $108
Pay month by month: $36

*International shipping by request
Australia single batch is an additional $8.40 for the 3 months
Canada double batch is an additional $6.00 for the 3 months

You can buy a slot in my etsy shop. If you’d prefer to pay by the month, contact me at cosymakes (!at) gmail (dot!) com. If you buy a double batch over etsy, i will refund some of the shipping.

Your fiber will be mailed USPS 1st class around the 20th of each month. If you have chosen the pay monthly option, expect the bill between the 10th and 15th. I will only mail your shipment if you have paid.

crossbow the second

December 26, 2011

this crossbow is destined for a friend who loved the colors when she first saw it. i made it last year (maybe janurary?) as a sample of the pattern in my snapdragon worsted yarn, but then i failed to get any sort of a decent picture of it. it has, however, been to both yarn and craft fairs since then. anyhow, i’d like to gift it and got some okay pics, so without further ado…

crossbow II

i also have one crossbow mitten almost done. i believe you will be able to get a whole mitten and hat set with one skein of each color (yet to be proven though ;). one of those projects i was working on before being struck with pregnancy carpal tunnel. maybe i’ll get back to it soon since i do want to publish the mitten pattern. this hat is raveled here.

November 28, 2011

can you even believe it?  i don’t think there have been any since before the babe was born.  and he’s 5 months old!  snapdragon sport up in the shop.  i really really want to use the lavender and olive for some colorwork mittens.  i love love love them together. but i’ll let you have first dibs, since i won’t get around to knitting them for quite a while.  there’s also one skein of purplish blue.

snapdragon sport - new colors

i also have new colors of snapdragon worsted, rainbow chard light, lamb’s pride bulky, a couple colorways of falkland top, and 3 skeins of handspun. i hope to get them up in the next week or two.

and today i ordered 150 more skeins to flesh out the color wheel in each yarn for the pittsburgh knit and crochet festival in february.

the end of an era

November 15, 2011

2006
from 2006

i’ve decided to stop selling hats and thus to re-home the hats i already have. i took all of my baby/kid hats to mama knitting today and got rid of a bunch. these hats that have been just sitting around are now keeping folks warm and toasty. and i get to see them being worn which makes me very happy.

that said, this is kind of a sad day. it marks the end of an era. my first creative knitting. my book deal, which was based on that knitting.  the playing with texture and color that won’t happen as much anymore.

but at handmade arcade this weekend, i sold not. one. hat. i re-homed three. i did, however, sell a bunch of yarn. and the place the hats took at my table could be filled with samples of my designs with my yarn.

the creativity that started in the hats has been slowly being funneled into designing anyhow. so i am saying farewell to my original hat business. CosyKnits (literally) and cosymakes is now a design/dye/teach business.  you’ll probably still see some hats, but way less than before and with intentional recipients.  i’m hoping to teach some creative hat knitting classes, too.

p.s. there also may be a hat give-away or two here on this blog. and there will probably be time for some old hats to be made into patterns also.  you know, as much time as you have with a 4.5 month old ;)

save that date!

October 31, 2011

indie knit and spin: a pittsburgh fiber artists’ market is happening (i can’t believe it!) on the 19th of november.

This is going to be awesome! I’m very very excited for it. Come! Bring your knitting friends and find fresh lovely hand dyed yarns, handspun, buttons, needle felting kits, patterns, spinning fiber, knitting bags and needle rolls. We’ll even have a bit of space in the room to hang out and eat some snacks.  more info can be found here.

click over to the blog to see posts about who’s going to be vending there. here’s my blog entry. but really, you should click the first link and look at everyone’s work.  i’m vending with some pretty fabulous fiber artists.  hope to see you there. and in light of that, here are some of the new yarns for it… and there are more where these came from, plus some new handspun.

new yarns

should you be so inclined, i’d recommend saving the date of the 12th too, for the fabulous handmade arcade! i’ll be there.

p.s. you can also read the cosymakes november newsletter here.

liz’s arm warmers

October 17, 2011

let us start with liz’s finished project (on ravelry here).  love them!

here’s the yarn she bought (two skeins are still available)

and i spun that yarn from this farm wool fiber club offering, targhee mohair blend from a farm in ohio

targhee/mohair

i must say i love seeing handspun from dyed to finished knit! and it’s even more fun when it’s a collaboration.
