spring trio

April 17, 2008

these are the hats that i feel like making in spring… perhaps because i first made up the pattern in spring. this is my most asked about pattern and i must let it slip, there are several hat patterns in the book based on it.

4 yr old-adult small – smaller and shorter on my size medium head. another of my favorite buttons. i’m totally wanting buttons again now that i’ve been using lots of my faves.

all three of these were made at knitting group on tuesdays. i often finish things up on mondays, and then by tuesday i have nothing on my needles so, working in the morning on something else, i grab yarn and needles when i’m on my way out the door and hope for the best. i’ve been on a handspun kick as of late :)

cream of tomato soup cardishirt

April 16, 2008

what does someone who is undeniably dedicated to all things woolie year round do when she feels some spring fever coming on?

cream of tomato soup cardishirt

size 10.5 needles
4 oz of my hand dyed handspun – PA animal friendly shetland – and 2/3 of a really sheepy skein of farm wool – perhaps the best photo for color is the one not in the sun, pictured in the post below this one

i had a completely different gauge and just winged most of it. when i ran out of the handspun, i switched to the farm wool. i then worked a bunch of 1×1 rib to repeat the pattern of the collar and to make up for the difference in gauge. at the bottom edge, i worked garter stitch. to draw the two garter stitch edges together and give it a finished look.

welcome spring!

i’m also thinking of this and this. and i might be distracted by this. and maybe i’m dreaming of this too. (all ravelry links)

p.s. the winners for the name game are up! click here and then click on the picture of the yarn to see them. if you want the yarn you named, give me an email at cosyknitsliterally (!at) gmail (dot!) com and we’ll work it all out.

knit one, embellish too!

April 14, 2008

Hello friendly blog readers,

I know many of you have already pre-ordered my book through amazon.com. And if you have, THANKS! If you have not done so, I have a request. If you can afford to, please consider buying my book through me. I will autograph the book and include a small skein of recycled sweater wool (50 yds). I am making this request because we are at a critical point money-wise and this may make the difference in between whether I get to keep crafting for my living or have to find a different job. I’m sure shipping will be a couple of bucks, so cost will be $25 for those of you in the US.  We’ll figure out international later.  If you would like to buy the book through me, it would be great if you could let me know by emailing cosyknitsliterally (!at) gmail (dot!) com. I would also appreciate any pre-payment you can make – either through paypal or check in the mail – so that I can get your book off to you right when I get them.

Thank you,
Cosy

p.s. Just to give you all a heads up – many of the book projects will also be sold. The larger projects will be packaged as the knit, plus an autographed book for $150 each. The smaller projects will be the knit, plus an autographed book for $80 each.

p.p.s. The book comes out on the 23rd of May. I’ll have them in the mail as close to that date as I possibly can, scout’s honor.

shetland name game

April 12, 2008

as usual, if your name is chosen and you decide you want the yarn, email me and you get 5% off of the price and free shipping. game ends monday at midnight. i love your creativity and you are in NO WAY obligated to buy or even think about buying if you participate in the naming. there are two ways to name, click into flickr and comment, or comment on this blog post. the benefit to flickr is that, you get to see both a regular photo and the closeup. i’ve given each yarn a number to make it easier. here’s the one yarn that i couldn’t resist naming myself, the rest are yours to play with

not quite dry

April 8, 2008

but i couldn’t resist photographing them. getting these done makes me want to be super productive for the next two days so i have something else new for the show and to show you all – sometimes the blog is good motivation. these are all local animal friendly shetland that i dyed within the last two weeks, except the purple. that’s from a different local farm. you can click over to flickr if you want to see drooly glamour shots.

for those interested, i’ll put the name game up on saturday. thought i’d give them a chance out in the world first since they were made specifically for this show ;)

boring, but pretty :)

April 7, 2008

wow. am i ever boring when i’m working like crazy. here are some more exhausted dye bath yarns. my friend gwen commented on the last post of this sort that she never has any dye left in her water – that’s because she doesn’t put enough dye in…. er… i put too much dye in. i dye by the seat of my pants :D

truth be told, unless you have lots of extra yarn to throw in to exhaust the dye bath, you probably don’t want dye left in that water.

these yarns were once a pink american eagle outfitters sweater. they’re lambswool, very nice, and kind of tweedy. some turned out better than others. ben thinks the one in the back is gross, but it’s growing on me. love the red.

american eagle outfitters

the water that i have left over when dyeing is generally from the turquoise or magenta colored dye, as can be witnessed by these two photos. most of my dye bath exhaustions are variations on blue and pink for that reason.

my favorite this time is the second from the right in the blue category. it was dyed after the dye bath was pretty well exhausted and is a variation on crock pot dyeing i hadn’t done before. i’ll have to play with it again next time.

p.s. while being sabbathy yesterday i finished the second half of the front of my drops cardigan. two sleeves to go! now it’s time to go spin… another sunny day may call for some afternoon porch spinning again. expect handspun yarn soon.

p.p.s. don’t forget about the spring pattern sale! it’s going on for about one more week.
