today i teach my first group spinning lesson! it’s full – six people. it filled up really quickly, so i have another one thursday night which has at least 2 people in it. should be an adventure :) and an adrenaline rush after an advent church service.

some of this, some of that
December 7, 2007there has been some of this

and it all seems worth it because there has been a lot of that out of doors
have a great weekend!

brioche hat
December 5, 2007from the book weekend knitting out of thrifted wools – one was a killer find at my goodwill in missoula and the other was from a thrift store in butte. that’s pretty impressive because i really didn’t find much wool in montana. knit while i still lived in montana (2003/2004?) when i was fairly novice in the knitting field (but obviously willing to try anything :). i remember struggling and struggling with the top decreases – they may have been poorly written. i even went to the yarn store to see if they could figure out what they said. they couldn’t. all in all, it turned out okay, then it looked horrid on me.
so, brioche stitch hat, where have you been for the last several years? in limbo, i must say. most recently, since the move to pgh, in a bag of failed knits to rip apart and re-use the yarn or to gift. a couple days ago i looked into the bag and saw it. on a whim i threw it to ben to try it on… his current favorite color is purple. i don’t know that he would have worn this one four years ago when i made it (it’s a bit less tame than this purple one that he does wear), but right now, with purple as his favorite color, everything clicked into place. the brioche hat has found a home, and with perfect timing i might add.

land of limbo
December 3, 2007that’s where this hat has been. it came to the last craft fair with me, but you all didn’t know about it. i couldn’t justify showing it along with the pattern right before, so into limbo it went.

ingredients:
thrifted wool
18 mo. to adult size small.
ah, and the last craft fair. another bust. it wouldn’t have been so bad had people been friendly and stopped to look – but, seriously, it didn’t happen until the last hour. luckily, my fellow craft mafia member subu rose was across from me. and in the boredom, i was certainly tempted to buy one of her lovely books… maybe at ‘i made it’ this weekend, if i make any money.
it’s interesting how you can never predict a craft fair. last year, this one was apparently a pretty good show, this year, not so much. the vendors who did okay or even good were bored out of their minds for part of the day. i guess not all was lost, i got a hat knit :) but seriously, they were trying times. jennie, another mafia member, was tempted to take my knitting needles and poke out her eyes. i’m glad i’m to the end of the holiday craft fair season. i needed a serious nap when i got home from this one.
in other news, ben and i are hopefully buying a car this week. do i hear indie craft fairs in other cities calling? maybe so…

baaaaa
December 2, 2007cindy sent me this picture of her starter flock of shetland ewes!! aren’t they beautiful? look at all of the colors. when i met her, she said that she does a lot of colorwork with the natural colors of her flock. at the bottom of the farm site (linked above) there a picture of a fair isle sweater that is just gorgeous.
