wool-silk warm and fuzzy
May 26, 2007sometimes yarn needs to be made into something simple, comforting and worn close to the neck. this was one of the occastions. i couldn’t stop looking at and touching this wool until i figured out what it needed to be. soooo lush.
the other day amanda and i went to the wool store to buy her a drop spindle and some needles and i had to get the size 13 US ciruclars. i just had to. this needed to be knit and nothing else could do the job. i sound a bit obsessive, eh? i had tried other needles and they just weren’t working for me. i’m going to call these warm and fuzzies since i can’t bear the title neck tube. i used to make them convertible, but it takes a very specific one to look good on the head (i.e. not this on) so i needed another name.
ingredients:
handspun, this squishy soft merino/silk blend dyed by fleece artist that i bought at fibrefest
i normally don’t like spinning merino, but i really enjoyed this stuff. maybe it was the silk? abnormally, i’ve even been knitting in merino alone for the last two days and although merino is nice and all, i need some yarn with some grip! it really weirds me out to only knit in merino – it’s almost too soft. i’m such a strange creature…
speaking of the grip of wool, i learned all sorts of new and exciting things about what physically makes merino different than other wools over at the knitpicks podcast. you should seriously have a listen. i’ve also been enjoying the christa knits podcast lately (yes, the woman i met on the bus back here). she talks about designing and interviews designers. it’s really well put together and great fun.
in other news, this sweater has found a home with my friend alissa until further notice! hurrah!
have a great weekend!

Were you and your friend in Three Bags Full on.. Monday or Thursday last week? I had come in from my lunch break, and was sitting in the back eating, and squinting at the two women chatting by the middle tables, thinking that one of them was you.. but I didn’t want to interrupt the intense discussion.. and then my mouth was full.. :) Glad you’re enjoying the podcast, thanks for the mention! Drop me a line with your answer to the Ultimate Question if you’d like, or something particular ‘what I’m going to miss about Canada’ for the next episode? (I think I saw that you’re moving somewhere south, no?)
