honey dew helmet hat

March 7, 2007

honey dew helmet hat, originally uploaded by cosymakes.

i made this one a couple of months ago, but was holding onto it and trying to decide what to do with it. i had so much fun doing the embroidery and really like the overall feel of the hat. once again, i punished myself by doing garter stitch it in the round (next time i will make it flat!). i like to emphasize the beauty of handspun by leaving long ends and letting some of it hang loose – so this was the perfect time to make my first chin strap.

ingredients:
50% llama/50% wool
embellishments – thrifted button and handspun by daniela over at felt studio UK.

size adult small (21 in.). it does fit on my 22 in. head, but i feel that it looks better on the smaller. you can go look at flickr and judge for yourself!

  1. What a beautiful hat. And, I do like the chin strap … very pretty yarns.

  2. The big garter stitch looks great – even if it was a pain to work.

    You’re clever.
