the projects that never end…, originally uploaded by cosymakes.
i’m in the midst of big knitting for the thesis, so there’s not much to show. in the front, a stole made out of a recycled sweater (with a great story i’ll tell you when i’m done!) and in the back and 3×3 rib scarf based on the historical one- really long and really wide.
i cannot tell you how much i enjoy knitting shawls and how miuch i love my shawl knitting books – especially Traditional Knitted Lace Shawls. it shows you shawl shapes, gives you ideas about how to make them, gives you some history, and sets you too it. i love how variable shawls can be, how the size and the shape, although it matters, does not matter that much. i also love how martha waterman (the author) gives not only different stitches traditionally used in shawls, but also gives why these stitches were used where they were used in the shawl, depending upon what the shawl was for. this book is more like a shawl workshop than a buy this yarn and do this book. i’m always a sucker for that… and i hope my book turns out that way!
in other news, i am looking forward to my next big art project when we move to pittsburgh. a mixed lace and painting project which was a canidate for the thesis, but got knocked out by the need to affirm handwork in itself.
